As humans, we tend to identify with the processes and patterns we experience within us as we engage with the world around us. Clearly seeing that which we habitually identify for what it really is, inner processes responding to outer circumstances, we can break the illusion of a self that is something in itself. This brings an exquisite sense of spaciousness. Observing the identity creation process as it is happening is profoundly freeing. It liberates awareness so as to make the observation of the identity creation process easier, which in turn liberates awareness even further.
What is true for the self is true for phenomena. When you recognise in your experience how all phenomena arise in dependence on other phenomena, the world turns spacious and this is profoundly freeing.
In this workshop, we explore what happens when we challenge the belief in a permanent inner self and move beyond the fear of losing the self into the relief from the burden of the self. Similarly, we expore what happens when we challenge the belief in a permanent identity of the things we seek to attain or avoid and move beyond the fear of losing what we like and meeting what we dislike. We explore what happens when we truly regard all things as “a dream, an illusion, a bubble, a shadow, like the dew, or like lightning”.
When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom
When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love.
And between these two, my life turns.
